a tumblelog dedicated to the Wonder Girls. Spread the Wonder!
YeEun was having a chat (special Yeeun Day event) with Korean WonderFuls yesterday at official WonderFul Daum Cafe. She mentioned that she’ll update her diary on 7th Nov instead of today (Yenny day). [Translations the points on her chat yesterday; her nickname is ‘Merong = stick out tongue’]

Here’s a short introduction about myself:
Hi, my name is Pia (19) and I am from the Philippines.
I love the Wonder Girls and I am a fan of SNSD.
I am an open-minded person and a critical thinker.
Tonight, I decided to sleep early but I wanted to read a few fanfictions first. I cannot log in to Soompi all of a sudden so I just went to allkpop.com and started browsing for interesting news. When I scrolled down the page, I saw a thread entitled “Teddy Riley insults WG”. I bet you think the first thing which came to my mind was, “What the *** is this ****?!”. Well, wrong. “Who is Teddy Riley?”, I thought. After a few seconds, I was like, “What the **** is this ****?!”.
Here is the screen cap of an SNSD fan’s tweet to Teddy Riley and Teddy Riley’s reply:

First of all, he is not saying anything about the Wonder Girls indirectly. What does he mean by “Pls don’t worry they will be more excepted than WG. Fosho!!!!”.
I do not want to tweet that person although I want to know why SNSD will be more accepted in the U.S. than the Wonder Girls. I have three guesses. First, they are pretty and talented. You will not succeed without those. Second, they have many fans who will support them. Third, Teddy Riley was the composer for the title track of “The Boys”. I have a basis for my third guess. In my opinion, Teddy thinks that SNSD will be more accepted in the U.S. because he is an American and had worked with Michael Jackson. Now you would think I am pointless. So what if he is an American and if he had worked with the legend Michael Jackson? That is it. He thinks that he is a great American artist who is famous in his own country and he also composed “The Boys” and in that case, SNSD will be more accepted in the U.S.
Back to the question, “What does he mean by that tweet?” Does it mean “SNSD members are prettier and more talented than WG members so SNSD will be more accepted in the U.S.” or “The Wonder Girls are not famous in the U.S. and they will never be because only few people like them.” Whatever the tweet means, only Teddy Riley knows it. However, the problem is Teddy did not expound on that so the people started assuming and giving conclusions which may be [who knows] correct. We can judge but we should not hate.
Moreover, I think Teddy should not have dropped names. Matured and intelligent people would not do that. I do not care if you worked with Michael Jackson or whoever. It does not mean you are a great person. Also, it does not mean you can insult others in any way. I am after a person’s character because your character defines you and not your accomplishments whatsoever.
Now these are my questions:
Was it really necessary to compare? Did he even compare SNSD to the right people or group? What does SNSD have or does not have which will become an advantage/disadvantage when they decide to pursue a career in America? Do they even want to start a career there? If yes, how? Lastly, as a fan, a netizen, or a composer, how can you say that they will be more accepted than the Wonder Girls?
MOST IMPORTANT PART:
To my fellow Wonderfuls, please do not send him hate tweets anymore. We have manners. We should understand that there will always be people who do not understand, who think they are the best, who do not think first before doing something, and who are stupid enough because they only realize the wrong things they have done after committing mistakes. Please do not make fun of his grammar. My native tongue is Filipino and I commit mistakes in Filipino grammar sometimes.
So what if he hates or insults the Wonder Girls? The Wonder Girls are working hard for the “Wonder Girls at Apollo” right now. Soon, they will be able to make a U.S. debut and be successful. I want them to get recognition and it does not matter if they will not top the charts as long as they were able to fulfill their dreams and goals. There are people who love them and will always be there for them. If you are one of those people, although we are free to express our opinions, you will not make or post hate comments. We do not want a bad reputation do we?
In Cube Entertainment CEO Hong Seung Sung’s new book, “There Will be No Spotlight If You Stop Now“, he revealed that the Wonder Girls‘ Sohee had actually expressed a desire in halting her activities as a singer and becoming an actress in 2008.
Hong was the co-founder of JYP Entertainment before he went on to launch his own label, Cube, so the book delves into some of the inner-workings and stories of the label and its artists.
Hong revealed, “After Sohee starred in the movie ‘I Like It Hot’, she expressed that she wanted to focus on her acting career instead of her singing career. Because of that, we had to persuade her to change her mind for two to three months. Even if it wasn’t Sohee but another member, at the time, we had no choice but to help change her heart.”
He continued, “As opposed to worrying about one member leaving a five member group, I was worried that her decision wouldn’t be a safe one, especially since she’s been training for years specifically to become a singer. Fortunately, Sohee agreed with the company on still trying new things as a singer and to spend more time thinking about it.”
In actuality, rumors of Sohee’s departure began circulating amongst fans after the movie hit theaters in 2008. Although they were left as rumors then, the book confirms that they could’ve become true had it not been for the company persuading her.
